The stages of the process:

Identify the problem and research question

Plan the sampling and how the information will be collected. At this stage, sampling plan is done according to the required accuracy, budget or any other operational constraints.

Preprocess the information by data cleaning and preparing it for reading. Handle exceptions, missing information etc.

Perform required transformations in the data to enable further analysis.

Build the most relevant model. Model selection is from a variety of possible models such as: linear and non-linear regressions, multidimensional models, time series etc. Models for distribution’s change time detection. Identification of distribution and model selection methods. Hidden models such as the hidden Markov model. Monte-Carlo methods for computing statistics on complex distributions.

Train the model and evaluate the parameters. Depending on the amount of information collected and the computational load, a local computer or cloud services will be used.

Examine the model for part of the information (test data). Examination methods include cross-validation and more.

Apply the model to new data that is received. Application of the model is required for forecasting purposes.
